The (S)oft Generation

We've had the baby boomer generation, and generation X. I proclaim that the next generation will be the Soft Generation. It actually reaches back into generation X. There's not a decent linebacker among them. They can't play basketball, they gave up their rebellious years, and joined the IPO craze. They're allowing every bastion of male dominance to fall off to the wayside, and they fail to honor the testosterone inspired, call of the wild
.
On the surface of it, it seems like these kids are tuff and hard. But back in the old days, a frustrated football player would go off and beat the crap out of his woman's car, because a real man doesn't want to hit a woman. Nowadays a young football player gets his homies together and shoots his woman. Even the gangster rappers, who pretend to be hard, and really just a bunch of poot butts. All they rap about is shooting at somebody, or bum rushing somebody. They never want to just call somebody out, and threaten to whip some booty, man to man. They claim to be hard, but then they join a gang, looking for acceptance, a family connection, and love. I recall the lyrics of one RAP cut, that talks about a peer, who by his disrespectful actions, had managed to "Loose all his Homie's Love" Soft. You never heard David Ruffin or Mick Jagger reflect on their male relationships, other than to say that "He can't be a man, because he don't smoke the same cigarettes as me…" (maybe Mick Jagger is not the best example of male dominance, but I don't do research, I just rant and rave… Besides I don't believe those David Bowie rumors...)
Anyway, back to the matter at hand. These kids keep talking about having someone "give" them respect. They don't realize that respect is not given, and seldom earned. Respect, like power is usually seized or surrenderd at the insistance of a fist to the face.
