O'Reilly The No "Left" Spin Zone... |
Last year, he brought his FOX TV network show to the national radio scene. I admit that I was intrigued by the idea of an on air host that would examine the issues and make conversation based upon the truth as opposed to either party line. But it looks like the show that he hyped as having NO SPIN is being oversold, much like the FOX news network's claims of being "fair and balanced," while they lean way to the right. I admit that FOX does bring some airway balance to the "fair and balanced" left leaning news on CNN. The claims of fair and balanced and Bill's "No Spin" are meant to imply that the rest of the world's news services are either lying or only telling half truths, while they are completely honest, and unbiased - only reporting the facts, and letting you decide the truth. Actually they only report the facts as they see them or perhaps, only the ones that they like. But if you believe the claims that there is no spin, then you think that you have heard truth - when at best you have only heard the other side of the story.
I'm not even complaining about the fact that he leans right. I am only complaining about his claim that he is unbiased. At least the old guy with half his brain behind his back, freely admits his bias. O'Reilly goes after an occasional GOP guy that finds himself too far out on the fringe or he will scold them if they acquiesce to something short of the Republican platform, and then he points to it forever more as the time that he would not let the "right" spin their foibles.
He spins everything, and then puts a reverse tail spin on it by stating matter of factly that he is resisting someone else's attempt to spin. By claiming to be in the middle, he can act as if he is only supporting the Right - "This Time" because "This Time" they happen to be correct.
Again, I don't say that either he or the "Right" are wrong, I only say that he is a mouthpiece for the right, and that he spins everything in that direction.
He should be nicked named "Bill O'Righty"I always hate to interject the specter of race into an issue, so I won't try to spin this example. But recently O'Reily went after PepsiCo and forced them to cancel an advertising campaign with the rapper Ludicris. Among the reasons, he sited that, in his records he often calls women bitches. So Ludicris lost his deal, and PepsiCo found another spokesman - Ozzy Osbourne and his kids. Ozzy Jr. has reportedly framed the word Bitch as a description for his own mother. But Bill, Pepsi and America can somehow look the other way on this. (oh no, I sound just like Larry Elder, crying about a double standard. The Jury is admonished to forget this last paragraph.)
