Never let it be said that I'm
raining on anyone's parade. Dreams are the greatest
commodities in which youngsters can invest. Lord
knows that I've chased a few. Below we see a 30
gallon trash receptacle, si tting in the hallway outside of a
Hollywood casting agency. The can is filled beyond
the rim with photos and resumes the dreams of
some of the most beautiful, and shapely actresses in
town. Each of them showed up for an open casting call
for a successful national television production. Over
a two-day period, the casting agent interviewed over
100 such young hopefuls. There was one part.
So. A day later, the hopes and
dreams of over 99 of the hopefuls are dashed, and
their headshots and resumes are tossed into the
dumpster. The young male interns that work around the
studio swarm upon the trash can and fish out the
pictures to use as trading cards
I don't mean to suggest that anybody
give up the pursuit, because out of every 99
failures, at least 1 star is born. It has to be
somebody, so why not you? I only bring this all up,
in order to say Keep your
day job
Even though the J.O.B. cramps your
style, and forces you to be selective about which
parts you go for, without loosing the job, believe
me, it's easier to get a day off than it is to get
another job. Unless your acting skills include "fooling
yourself",
you will exude much more confidence, if you have a
full stomach, and some idea where your next meal is
coming from." A starving actress is actually a
struggling actress who decided that it was easier to
starve than to struggle.
She's right.
