Because of a personal experience trying
to do business with a black businessman - simply because he was black,
I have decided that affirmative action does not work.
The only reason that I'm opposing George Bush on his
decision to outlaw Affirmative action in Michigan is because this plan
only awards extra points to a student with a perfect SAT score. That's
hard enough for any kid, and when you factor in the extra points that
the white kids are getting for participation in extra curricular
activities, I think it balances out, I'm sure that Mr. Bush has no way
to evaluate the problems facing the black kid's household that might
prohibit his extra curricular activities, See. Blacks don't have
nannies at home, so they may be latch key kids with chores to do.
My beef with Affirmative action is this: I went
to a brother with $5000, excellent credit, and the most income that I
had ever made in my life. I told him - a mortgage banking, real
estate salesman, that I wanted to buy a house. First he had me looking
at houses in the deep hood, so I found my own house, and had him
contact the selling broker. I made an offer 10 days after meeting Mr.
Business. Three months later - no loan, and he was bumping my out
pocket expenses every week, from $4410, to $7000. So I fired him, and
3 weeks later I was closing with a non-minority lender.
After that experience, I decided that I was not doing a
black businessman any favors by helping him stay in business for
another month, if he did not know what the hell he was doing. It would
be better if he went back to work at the factory, until he raised the
money to properly capitalize his business enough to buy matching
furniture in his lobby. |
