Lakeside
Park |
 |
 |
Amusement Park in
Dayton, through the 1960's. It was a full blown permanent carnival,
located within the local community. It was within walking distance
for an enterprising youngster. There was a Kiddie Land area,
complete with silly mirrors, and bumper cars. There were 2 roller
coasters, a modern, but tame one called the "Wild Mouse" and
the old wooden framed one called the "Wild Cat". According to
legend, one or two people fell from the Wild Cat, over the
years. There was something called the Bullet, and a mild
rollercoaster with a convertible top. It was kind of a tunnel of
love, but I believe that it was also called the "Caterpillar"
In the evenings there was a large Bingo Hall over-looking the entire
park. The park eventually closed as LeSourdsville Lake, and Kings
Island became popular. Black entrepreneur, George Tuck took over the
grounds, and created the Lakeview Palladium. (FULL
STORY)

favorite intimate concert venue, run by George
Tuck. The former amusement park, and bingo hall
became the entertainment spot of the 70's featuring

numerous Battles of the Local Bands.

Vocals. My first
buddy. We went to kindergarten together at Wogaman School. He entered
the music late in the game, and was never able to put a viable organization
together, but his group (name unknown) did perform at a couple of
talent shows and battle of the bands. He died tragically in a car
accident after assuming a position as a teacher in the Dayton Public

Mallory Pool/Park |
|
City Swimming Pool,
located in south west Dayton, through the 1960's. Many a
hot and lazy summer day was spent splashing in this municipal pool.
Located on Germantown Pike, it was the only full fledged pool, wit a
diving board, in the hood, I believe. There was also a pool at
Bomberger Park, but it was (kind of) for the East side of Dayton (if
you get my drift). Westwood park/school also had a small pool, but
nothing the size of Mallory's unless I am mistaken. |

Mayo's Skating Rink - The Mayo Family |
The Dayton Music Guide
is dedicated to the generation of great memories from the "Good.Old.Days".
We would be remiss in our duty, if we don't mention Skating. This
was one of our favorite pastimes besides a good Talent Show, and
it was all about music, and some serious dancing on wheels. This
was the main Skating Venue in the late 1950's, the place with the
Donkey Statue in the front yard.

or road staff member, came: Over Nite Low, The Ohio Players, Dayton,
Shadow, The Commodores and Faze-O. He has been host and executive
producer of his own TV show The Promising Young Stars Jazz Series

Reggie "moon" Morgan |
|
Guitar: Started his career
as the lead guitarist for
Crystal Love in
1973. He was a long time friend of William Shelby since 8 years
old. He was not familiar with R&B music as such because he always
played heavy rock and roll, and lot of Jimi Hendrix and Parliament
Funkadelic. The band was 3 pc for almost a year, He was
responsible for all treble parts, keyboard lines, strings and
horns. This taught Reggie to be one of the best "pocket
guitarist" in Dayton.
After the disbandment of Crystal Love
He started a group call "Fantasy"
This group lived and played in and around Detroit until returning
back to Dayton in 1979. Then he played with "Gem City Starship",
which spun off into a group known as Phoenix.

Walter "Junie"
Morrison
 |
Keyboard/Vocals "Pain"
Who will ever forget this Ohio Player's hit, performed vocally by
Walt. He left the player's early, and missed much of their success,
but he still managed to get the "Rolls Royce" that he
asked for in one of his solo records. Later he joined the P-Funk
Thang, and helped pen the classic "Knee Deep".
Recently he has produced fellow Ohioan, James Ingram, whose latest
record features '90's remakes of his classic love songs.

A
drummer's drummer. Always in the pocket with consistent timing,
and above average technique. Not a power drummer, but not a lightfoot
either. Keith probably had the sweetest, most expensive drum set
in town. He worked his way up through the ranks, landing eventually
with Slave, towards the end of their run, after he traveled to L.A.
with Record Player.
